The standard itself is not an Act of Parliament, but the duty behind it is law. Once an operator moves a door under power, that door is classed as a machine, and machinery law made by Parliament requires it to be supplied safe and then kept safe and maintained in use. BS EN 16005 is the recognised way of showing you have done that: it says safety functions must be maintained and points to at least one inspection a year by a competent person. It is also the document insurers and courts refer to after an incident.

Once a year is the minimum. A supermarket entrance doing thousands of cycles a day needs quarterly attention, and a health centre or care home usually needs six-monthly visits. We agree the interval from how the door is used rather than from a price list.

A written report listing the tests carried out, the force readings, what passed, what needs attention and when we recommend it is done. Keep it with the door's log book. It is what an inspector or an insurer will ask to see.

Yes. Send us the current schedule and the last report, and we will quote to continue it or improve it.

Yes. We fit powered swing openers to existing front, internal and communal door sets for local authority adaptations, housing associations and private households, and we service them afterwards.

Usually, yes. Fitting an operator to the door already hanging is quicker, cheaper and less disruptive than a new door set, and it is often the fastest route to an accessible entrance. We will tell you at survey if the door or frame is not up to it.
